Treatment for Sleep Apnea

Alternative to CPAP

Sleep apnea is a serious disorder that requires some type of treatment. A popular method of treatment that has been around for years is the use of a Continuous Positive Airway Pressure(CPAP) device. A CPAP device uses room air that is taken in through a filter and pressurized according to the setting recommended by a sleep specialist. The air is then passed through a heated humidifier and delivered via tubing to the mask interface. Though the CPAP machine is an effective form of treatment, patients prescribe only a moderate amount of use. Some patients find the mask difficult to wear during sleep as it limits their ability to move freely throughout the night. Fortunately, we have a solution- oral appliance therapy.

Oral appliance therapy consists of a custom made oral appliance that helps to reposition the tongue and lower jaw forward during sleep to maintain an open airway. This form of treatment is much more comfortable to wear throughout the night, and allows you to move as you please during sleep.

To create your custom appliance, an impression of your teeth is taken in office, and is then sent to one of our trusted dental labs to be fabricated. Within a couple weeks, you will have your appliance and be on your way to a full night of quality rest. If needed, we can make necessary adjustments in office to assure ultimate comfort.
